Brakes (liability disclaimer)

This must be one of the most common requests or questions posed within the forum. Here we'll try to answer your enquiries without the need to search the forum for hours on end. Much of the information has been taken from previous forum posts and has been kindly supplied by those "in the know".

Let's start with the calipers...Why the upgrade?

Over the years, braking technology has advanced far in excess of the caperbilities of OEM. Aided by the improvement in pad material, less unsprung weight (approx 1 kg less compared to a pair of std 6 pots!!), seriously increased one finger stopping power for those seat of the pants moments; when you think you've over cooked it for that pending tight corner, then you're onto a winner. These brakes are a direct replacement and even bolt straight on if you have the FZR-R model.

Warped brake rotors are one of the Exup's shortfalls. Afterall, compared to modern bikes weight, they've got a fair task on their hands stopping the aging beasts. Discs are expensive to replace, making them a bit of a rarity in the second hand market. To that end, we've collected a list of compatible rotors that are interchangable from other manufacturers and models. It'll save you time cross referencing all the codes but not hours searching Ebay and the likes!

No use upgrading the calipers without the Master Cylinder! Standard M/C's will cope with upgraded calipers but leave a wooden feel as though there's air in the system. If you're after that killer one fingered stopping power for the front end, you'll need to go all the way and splash the cash. We'll tell you how it is!

Inside the caliper...Wish to strip the caliper to have the main casting chromed or polished, maybe the spots reanodized a different colour? Here we show how it's assembled and where to get the seals for reassembly that aren't in the Yamaha parts catalogue!

Want the latest blue spot on the rear to match the front?....no problem! Check out what our members had to overcome to achive a matched pair. They'll advise on the necessary work and what parts to buy.
