Upgrade
your Master Cylinders
Words & pictures by Stig; with
additional information supplied by forum members.
Whats
the point in upgrading the calipers if you aren't going
to make the most of their potential? Without the master
cylinder to match, you'll be left with a wooden feeling
lever; a little like there's air in the system. The
items below are fitted as OEM parts to factory models
and are readily available second hand. |
The
available options |
|
|
Standard master cylinder with 14mm bore.
Can be found on any model that supports the Monobloc
1 piece construction calipers as well as the YZF1000R
Thunderace.
Suitable for all non radial calipers. |
|
|
Radial Master cylinder with 16mm bore.
Only found on later models with radial calipers.
Although the bore is greater, the more advanced
design allows further improvement in braking feedback
when compared to the 14mm version. |
|
Be aware that If you're installing the above, both will
need a mounting bracket to be fabricated to mount the
reservior. In the case of the radial master cylinder,
there may be clearance issues with the instrument cluster
on full lock. |
