Hello

Post by Tipper2 »

Hi All,

I've just joined after I bought a '91 RU, 15 years since I sold my first one. Unfortunately the first one was mint and this one is far from it.

I'm just starting to get it sorted out, electrics first. I've chopped out the useless alarm but can anyone please tell me if the oil light should come on when the ignition is turned on?

Mine doesn't, I can't remember if it should or not and haven't got around to finding the switch and earthing it to test. (The bulb is fine and there's voltage to it).

Thanks.

Welcome to the mad house Tipper.
You have come to the right spot for all your exup help!
With the ignition turned on the oil light should remain off unless your oil level is too low.
Oil light should come on when you hit the starter button and go off when you release it.
That's how my YZF works so I would think yours would work in the same.
Someone else will be with with you to agree with me or put me right!!
Hope that helps.

Welcome to the site Tipper.

I've just been to check on my bike Dave (Fatdog) and when I turn the ignition on the green neutral light comes on. The oil light lights up when you press the starter button then it will go off after a few seconds.
Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.

That would appear to be working normal.
The system runs a oil check when you hit the starter, if it detects an issue then the oil light will remain on.
Mine is the same apart from the oil light only stays on as long as I'm pressing the starter button (it doesn't stay on a few seconds after starting).

I got sorted with the caliper seals- either they shrank overnight or I had the wrong glasses on yesterday.

Oil light stays off when ignition is turned on but lights up when disconnected so I'm assuming for the moment that it works properly. When I change the oil I'll leave the ignition on while it's draining to check.

Carb inlet rubbers and coils hopefully here tomorrow so I can get her fired-up. :D
