The place to come to share your technical expertise, or just find out what the little springy thing is that's just pinged out of sight under the work-bench.
I finally got to test my winter project yesterday! It ran on tick over lovely and its had new fuel filters, plugs and exup valve is working perfectly.
I took off down the road 2 miles pulled great but then seemed to run out of petrol but the tank is full? stopped for 5 mins bike started ok off i went again and 2 miles later did the same ? as it started to loose power i applied choke but still came to a halt. The only thing i have not changed is the fuel pump and it is noisy when you turn ignition on.The bike is now with a local garage but has anyone had this problem with theirs?
fpumps will always be noisey at first until they reach pressure...loads of clicking then slows until the float bowls are primed. You'll probably not notice it at all after that
Sounds like when the fuel pump failed on my Gennie. Rather than pay Yamaha prices I took it to an auto electrics factor who matched it for me. It was made by Mitsubishi anyway.
You can take pump apart and check, very easy.
The diaphragm on mine was stuck to the plastic part, so not pumping.
Sprayed on wd40 left it for 10 min's then gently peeled it off. works fine now and its still the original 1989 one. You can also check the points.
But as said they are loud at first until system is primed
Only those who have been insane can prove there not insane! Can you ??? :-)
Well I had a call from the garage and he has said its the fuel pump as after it primes on ignition its not doing anything. So that would explain only getting 1 to 2 mile up the road.
I dont have the time to mess about so need to find a sh one asap.
Does anyone have one for sale? There are plenty on ebay but would rather buy one from a member if possible.
Would a faulty relay for the FP cause this problem? put the replacement pump on same problem? Going to collect a relay tonight hope this is it as feeling demoralized with it all
If you flick the kill switch off then on again ill bet the fuel pump fills the carbs for another 2 miles worth..happend on mine .turned out to be the grey oblong relay next to the pump .the one that bolts to the fuel pump mount bracket .also daft as it sounds check your fuses in the fuse holder
