Just been looking on Evilbay for a new shock for my 4XV R1 (wife went on the back last night and buggered it
)
Does it have to specifically be one from the 99-00 model, or will any fit?
Need one soon as it's like riding a bouncy castle.(the bike that is
)
stop polishin' it and ride the f***ing thing!
It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it.

The 4XV is differant from the 5JJ , but all I can find out is damping/spring rate - 5JJ is softer.

The 2000-01 5jj shock should be a direct swap for the 98/99 4xv, in terms of fitting it to the bike. Dimensions & mounting points are identical
but Yamaha made some revisions to the later shock's spring &/or damping rates.
Think you'd be very hard pressed to notice the difference though Kiwi
I rode a mate's 01 model the other weekend & TBH it didn't feel any different to how my '99 felt, before I sorted the suspension on mine

@ a liteweight 17 stone I'm a good shock tester
I think all they did was soften it up a little bit for 2000+

Cheers guys, i'm only a scrawny bloke, i don't think a soft shock will even compress with me on it. Nice to know there are some techno wizzards out there.
