Top nut rear shock

Post by undeadhairy »

Well finally decided to change the rear shock as was rusted and kept getting informed every mot, we'll was great fun to begin with as both top and bottom nuts were seized on, to gave em both a good soaking with oil to ease them, 2 days later had a 2nd attempt, bottom one came off after alot of swearing and cursing at it, top one after cleaned and careful inspection nicely rounded off, ordered some rounded nut sockets to grab it and hopefully remove it.
Wonderful start to 2026, then to change the brake lines and clutch one for braided as they are still the ones from 1989, they've lasted very well.
I blame nugget for this 🤣

Happy New Year Karl :worthless:

Good to see you around the place. What bike do you have now?

The Irwin nut removers are really good. I’ve used them many times on various projects so should do the job

Last year I was hoping to finally get the bike out but a mixture of family poor health and my son still overtaken the garage, it didn’t happen.
Things are currently stable here at present and I still have my garage back sooooo…… plan towards start of March I’ll be dragging the covers off, making some space to get the bike on the lift to recomission ( fingers crossed)

Stig, why have you let him back on here? I thought we'd finally got shut of him once and for all.

You try to help these young'uns with good advice, but they just don't want to listen to their elders.

I told Karl, I had the same trouble with one of my nuts on the lower end of the dog bones. It wouldn't shift, and I ended up rounding the nut off. One nut splitter on order from eBay, and once I got delivery of it, it came off no bother.

If you need anymore help Karl, I have a helpline number, but its only for emergencies.

Here's my bast*rd of a nut.

Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.
