Exhaust Collector Repair

The cast steel exit section on the 4:1 collector needs replacing or a repair where the silencer clamps on.

I think it's Cast Steel and can check with a grinder for the presence of sparks as a quick check.

Anyone have any experience of repairing the collector on these bikes?

I may open up the silencer too and have a look inside..

That'll save me machining something from stock so thanks for the tip!

Is it cast steel do you know as I'll then just use a Mild Steel filler rod?

Old post but a bit of info.

The Exup housing is a cast iron part, the connector that the end can clamps to is mild steel so, can easily be welded and/or replaced with tube 👍
1992 RU midnight blue, Wiseco 1070, 6 speed, r1 calipers, ducati discs , 157 bhp crank, Ohlins shock

I now buy these and weld them to the cast steel valve chamber.

I cut the extension off the mangled header i have, as a result of watching Toms Workshop on youtube. Every fzr1k newb should watch that series.
90 fzr1k in black, 91 fzr1k parts bike, 05 fz1/fazer daily ride. Thats just the yams.

That’s handy, I try to buy good originals as my welder’s retired 👍
