Rev counter stopped

Have a 89 fzr thou exup.
Went out on it yesterday with everything running sweet.
Topped up the oil, started up with a little choke. Rev counter slid up to 2000 revs. Wound the choke off. Sat there happily at 1000 revs idling away and then the rev counter dropped off to zero. Engine still idling.. Couple of twists, sounds as it should but not displaying revs?

I had a problem with the fuel level gauge on my FJ1200 last year. I had a spare float transducer so plugged that in but no response. Then I followed the sequence as suggested in the Haynes manual. Still no response. So i removed the clocks & cleaned up all of the electrical contacts, which did the trick.

That's all I can suggest. If the engine's running then the signal from the ECU is triggering the coils. So check all of the electrical contacts & spray with some GT85

Theres no cable, I think it gets the feed from the coils.

Never, ever go out to fettle you bike after a bottle of vino.

So, went down to the bike after looking through the manual.
Put key in turned her on and primed, then the exup valve glitched out.
So took it apart and the servo had wound round in opposite direction which resulted in a snapped push cable!

So, tied the exup valve open for time being (dont have a cable repair kit at moment, or a spare cable) until I fix the cable again....

Put her back together, started her up and the tacho now works?!?!
