trying to find the plate used to check the cam valve clearances .

What exactly do you mean?

I dont recall needing anything like that when i did the clearances on my EXUP.

there is a timing plate shown in the manual that has a dowel pin location hole that you bolt onto the left side of the crank after removing the two caps .
yamaha tool # 33M-81673-10
I assume it has lines that line up with the pointer that appears in the inspection hole on the left of it to give TDC.

Its just one of Yamaha's fancy tools that was useful for the dealers workshops but not essential for the home mechanic.
Its only an adapter to be able to rotate the crank.
