Can you use a soldering iron to fix small cracks in original panels from the back ? Has anyone done this - does it prevent further cracks and stop them getting bigger?
Anyone suggest a kit ?
I would imaging using a demmell and then glueing would be best way !

Yes. That's the way I do it. I drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it spreading. I then use a soldering iron to weld/melt the two pieces together. That will leave a furrow along the weld. I then apply Q Bond powder and drip on the hardener in the kit and that sets solid in seconds. I weld both sides of the repair for greater strength and apply the Q Bond to that side as well. The Q Bond will flat down by using wet and dry paper stretched over a small block of wood or similar. You may require a tiny amount of body filler to get the shape perfect. It should then be ready for painting. Take a look at this.......
