What would be the point of buying something online that is right when it arrives and just bolts straight on. Where's the fun in that?

Bike's looking better by the picture by the way.

yep, the fun part is making it all fit together.

As the suns shining I thought I'd tack everything back on for an updated pic, or at least one's that weren't taken in the confines of the garage :D

Epic length? :paranoid:

Its only been 4 years :D :D :D

Anyway, whilst I was waiting for my clamps to arrive I thought I would tackle a few jobs on the rear end.

Remember this?

Image

Well I decided it was time to fit it, however in its raw form it was too wide and couldn't be riveted to the backplate on the swingarm.

Image

Image

But with a curve introduced it would allow me to fit it.
So out with the heat gun and spare tyre to use as a former to get the bend right.

Image

Image

However this didn't work as I could only heat a bit at a time.
So into the kitchen I go and sling it in the oven at 150C for 10 minutes
held over the tyre former with welding gloves and I ended up with this.

Image

Needed a bit of cleaning with wet and dry to remove the finger marks and material from gloves , but its the shape I needed.

so out with the rivet gun.

Image

Image

Whilst the rear wheel was out I fitted the replacement chain adjuster bolt I bought 2 years ago, after removing the lettering from the heads with a flap wheel.

Image

Image

Image

Next I rummaged through my assortment of hoses to see if I could find a rear brake line that fitted, unfortunately the remaining Triumph line ( other two are used on the front) is too long, but a Melvin rear brake line from a GPz500 set I bought on the off chance, fitted the bill.

Image

The handy thing about the Melvin lines is that you can rotate the banjo fitting by 90 degrees without affecting the seal.

Image

So, along with the rear caliper I got from Plodder  I now have a functioning rear brake.

Image

Image

Just need a clip to hold the line away from the can.

Image

Yesterday (Saturday), my replacement clamps arrived

Image

So the next step will be making sure she's water tight and running her up, and maybe, just for giggles, put the old chain on her to see how she rides (just up and down the road) before getting new chain and sprockets, rear tyre, MOT, Insurance, blah blah blah

Oh, and correcting my wiring error, you remember I replaced/lengthened the rear brake wiring?
well I simply removed the extension and lengthened the existing wiring, whats wrong with that you may ask?
see pic.............what a pillock!!

Hello fang it's me nuggitt. Nuggitt!!! I've only been away five minutes and I'm a distant memory in Norfolk land. Missed your art work on the bike whilst I've been on my travels.
Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.

The torque arm is made of good enough quality alluminim to be able to be anodised. I did my one black & came up a treat.

Clear anodised as standard but I wanted the black finish. I did the rear caliper bracket in black as well, instead of the flakey black paint finish.

Morning all, its been a while since my last confession...hang on? that's not right!

I mean, its been a while since my last update :D

So I remedied my wiring cock up

Image

Image

My inserts and spacers for the rad and bars arrived from my machinist

Image

bar end inserts before

Image

and after machining

Image

Image

mmmmm shiny

Image

so set about installing the bar end weight inserts.

Image

took a while but by using a sanding bit in a cheapo Dremel I managed to enlarge the internal ID of the bars to allow a snug fit of the insert.

Image

drilled a couple of holes to allow for welding

Image

Inserts installed, spot welded, weld smoothed off, job done.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

bar ends fitted :D

Image

So, once this was completed I fitted the radiator mounts and filled her with water (no coolant yet incase of leaks) and ran her up.

Image

Temperature gauge works

Vid below

Image

Fan switch works a treat too, cuts in at 90 degrees

Image

doesn't take long for the temp to start dropping either

Image

Everything is water tight, just one small problem being that the lower hose is a bit too close to the exhaust header for my liking!

Image

Remedied this by temporarily spacing out the right hand bracket where it mounts onto the frame downtube (as viewed from the front)

Image

Image

But this introduced a gap between the bracket and the rad on the left!!

Image

Image

So I will have to find a solution for this, as I don't really want to make a new bracket unless I have to, may just cut off the mounting lug on the downtube and re-weld it back on 20mm or so further inboard.

And just for giggles replaced my key fob. :D

Image

Image

So this is the first time she's been run since before Xmas and the weird running on 3 symptom has gone, happy days, not sure if it was the new carb rubbers, the resealed inlet stub o'rings, the new HT leads or the fresh fuel, but its gone and thats all that matters.
Plus on top of all this the new temp gauge and fan switch work, and the new hoses don't leak so all in all I'm a happy teddy bear :D
