My "new" YZF1000

Post by 97YZF1000 »

Well after selling my last one and buying a 2006 FZ1 I wanted an EXUP again and came across a good deal on a '97 YZF1000. The best part was that I was able to keep the FZ1 as well.

Spent the past Winter taking it apart down to the frame. About the only thing I didn't touch was the engine (well other than a jet kit and new clutch). Collected quite a few unique bits for it and now it's back on the road. I love that Ohlins shock :D Enjoy the pics:

silver spots too. Just out of curiosity...are the pistons alloy on those, the walls being approx 3mm thick?

Hey nothing wrong with a little "junk in the trunk" :D

As for the calipers, I'm not really sure, but I didn't think they were any different than the blue spots (other than the color). They came off a 2007 FZ1.

Thanks :) It did take quite a bit of my time, not to mention $$$, to get it to this level. At this point I'm pretty much done, other than painting the front mudguard red. The black just looks out of place on the bike even though that's the way they came from the factory.

They look good but are a real pain to keep them clean, though.

A nice tidy lump you have there matey.
Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.

Very true, but given how they transformed the look of the bike I'll deal with the cleaning :)

Love the YZF - such an underrated machine - and a damn clean one you have there too!
Something clever goes here but I can't be bothered!
