Track day on Tuesday... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51078049813_be64afbd3a_c.jpg Sad times, my arthritis won't even let me push the EXUP into the van so I think it's going to have to go. I'll put up a classified ad but I'll be keeping some parts, such as the wheels and front master cylinder...

That FZ is a nice thing. I'm not normally a fan of the later ones but that's smart!
I do like the early ones in silver, though. When I was at school one of the science teachers had one with a 4-2-1 pipe and EXUP swinger, forks and wheels. :)

Sorry, the manual I was looking at gave the impression that coil 1&4 was switched by the grey wire, so the tacho shouldn't really affect the orange wire. There's not much left to check that's specific to 1&4! The one thing I would check that Stig was implying on the first page is to check th...

Ok, I think I'd be looking at the loom again. Off the top of my head, the wires to 1&4 coil will be grey & red/white? I would run a temporary wire from the grey at the TCI (CDI) plug onto 1&4 coil, and then pick up the red/white straight from 2&3 coil as a test. The ignition wiring f...

It's a wasted spark circuit, so if a plug breaks down completely (like a dodgy copy plug could) it would break the HT circuit, so no spark on either cylinder fed by that coil. If a it fouled you could still have a spark on the opposing cylinder as there could still be a completed circuit. For the co...

Just a thought, have you swapped the spark plugs between cylinders or tried a new set from a reputable source? A failed plug would also stop the opposing plug from firing, and if you're using eSkip NGK specials.... :paranoid:

The other basket I have is the same, so in that case I'm assuming that they skimmed two baskets at the same time. I'm not too worried about the basket as it's been in there for nearly 30 years, with the first few as a race bike. (Yep, 30 years! ) I put it back together yesterday afternoon and ...

Thanks again for your input, it's greatly appreciated! I think I may have had a breakthrough. I was just reassembling the clutch and noticed something which sparked off something that the guy who had the bike built had mentioned a while ago: - "Just a point the clutch basket has cut outs...

I've just dropped out the clutch basket and there's nothing to report there. There's a sensible amount of primary backlash, and although the three yellow damper springs are loose they would tighten when you pull the clutch in, which doesn't make any difference to the noise. Now, I can see the hy-vo ...

Thanks for your comments, that's reassuring about the chain. The whine you can hear in the video is quite loud, certainly louder than any other EXUP/Thunderace etc. that I can find on YouTube. Strangely, having gone around it with a garage stethoscope (i.e. a screwdriver and an ear) it's loudest at ...

Alternator Chain Slack

Evening all, I'm chasing a strange whine on my 1990 EXUP, which is loud at tickover but gets quieter once you rev the motor. It does also get quieter once the motor warms up, but it's still there. You can hear it here... https://youtu.be/5xRCqZvuH8I I've been scratching my head for a while and have ...

Yeah, I'm really pleased, even moreso that Mike, Ian and Roger were all happy to talk about it. And, all said just how good it was!

Here's hoping that the forthcoming maiden trackday goes ahead....
