I'm pretty sure I had the same problem a couple of years ago with mine so drilled my own holes.
Seem to also remember I put the holes too near the caps for the lashed-up spring compressor I was using so leave enough room to give access to the locking nuts underneath.

Evening All, Just about to get my RU back on the road after about 3 years. I had the head off and did the valve guide oil seals earlier this year and re-built and re-sprung the forks just before it was laid-up due to lack of time. Just looking at replacing the rear shock (again). I tried an MT07 one...

Absolutely none. To be honest these engines are a 30 year old design and mineral oil was the norm at the time. As to the viscosity with UK conditions I don't think it does any harm either.
