I'm pretty sure I had the same problem a couple of years ago with mine so drilled my own holes.

Seem to also remember I put the holes too near the caps for the lashed-up spring compressor I was using so leave enough room to give access to the locking nuts underneath.

I extended my side-stand already so hopefully shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for this👍

I'll have a look at gen 1 RR shocks, also seen a thread about fitting a Hyabusa shock so that's another possibilty.

BMW S1000RR Shock

Evening All, Just about to get my RU back on the road after about 3 years. I had the head off and did the valve guide oil seals earlier this year and re-built and re-sprung the forks just before it was laid-up due to lack of time. Just looking at replacing the rear shock (again). I tried an MT07 one...

Blocked tank vent would cause bigger problems at high revs due to greater displacement but well worth a look at.

And have you checked the carb diaphragms for holes? Just thinking out load here as it looks like you've done the obvious things. Just rembered my mates exup was randomly running like a bag of shite years ago when I had my first one so we spent a day swapping one thing at a time from mine to his. Tur...

Is there any popping or backfiring when it's not running properly?

Wear or crap in the needle valve or a sticky float would be my guess.

I think the thermistor knocks one coil off so you know to flick the switch.

Absolutely none. To be honest these engines are a 30 year old design and mineral oil was the norm at the time. As to the viscosity with UK conditions I don't think it does any harm either. I've used it in my older (1980s) bikes for years and never had a problem. I did try semi synthetic in an early ...

A bit of both I'd say, it's done 54000 miles but spent time standing looking at the old mot history.

If I feel particularly enthusiastic one day I might whip the head off and sort it out-

20/50 Mineral Oil.

Uses very little, other than the first 30 seconds after start up when you'd think it was running on logs 😆.

Bit of a weep past the valve guide oil seals but I'm happy to live with it.
