yamaha yzf 750/1000 has come home

mornin all
well i dont know how much of this story you may or may not know
but i'm gonna tell it anyways lol
in 2001 i had the chance to buy something special a yzf 750/1000
i rode to assen for the W.S.B with YAMAEXUP (Tim) on it and it was a
stonkingly quick bike
after moving from kent to glasgow i had to sell it (a decision i regreted ever since)
it was bought by exupjohn who took it apart and sold the rolling chassis to rf9 rider who in turn started one of the most popular posts on the net about the conversion **see (project number 2)**
i had heard through the grapevine that the bike was in perth not far from glasgow and the present owner was looking to sell it
so in i jump and have just bought it back at a steal
its been down the road but looks like a slow speed front washout
so am now gonna start a new rebuild post

this was my baby 10 years ago

this is what i picked up last night (i still have my copy of the origional logbook with a few owners less on it lolol)

well first things first
the engine is ticking over quite high - 2500rpm
i think my first job is to check the rubber carb mounts / choke cable /
tick over screw / throttle cable connections
its stage 3 jetted with k&n pods
any other thing i should look out for ?

sounds like you've covered most of the basic checks there

tis a shame to see it in that state. will be good to see it returned to its former glory. Did always like that colour scheme

to be honest your lucky to get it in such good state paul. it was my mates son that bought it and he is a bit of a numpty, it is lucky thats all the damage there was. he got a pair of part worn race tyres and only fitted the rear, i am not surprised he lost the front end. good luck with the rebuild, it was a nice bike and it still went like buggery.scott

I tried fitting the 0W01 kit to my Ace, not the YZF750, although they are similar size.
Problem i had was the steering, bars wouldn`t turn fully, it either needed the fairing cutting or moving forward to clear the bars.

things you might already know - am just spreading the info -
the fzr engine started its life with the fz750, yamaha kept the same engine casing fzr 1000 gen / exup / yzf 750 / ow01 /right through to the ace
the delta box chassis is verry similar between models from the exup onward
this is why the conversion is popular - the parts are interchangeable (with a bit of huff n puff)
there were 2 versions of the ow01
this is the euro version

this is the jap version ( notice the slight difference in the headlights)

in australia when the yzf 750 was officialy launched in 1993 it was called an ow02 !!!!!

what i intend to do is bring the best parts of the yzf / fzr bikes together
with in depth how to's and it will be called a FZR-SP (stigs first sticker job)

but wont start tonight cos need to clean the garage and make space so will start at the weekend lol

I bought it from Italy on Ebay.

Sold it on Ebay, think it went down south somewhere.

At least i made a little profit on it.
