Greetings from the US

Post by 97YZF1000 »

Here are some pictures of my new to me '97 YZF1000 (Thunderace). Last week I performed all kinds of maintenance on the bike. New fluids, replaced spark plugs and air filter. Also cleaned and synchronized the carbs. Got a good waxing too since I removed all of the fairings. Finally took it for a ride after getting it registered and insured. Wow I had forgotten how fast these bikes were!!! This was my first ride in almost 10 years and it was kind of scary :).

Now I just have to fix the EXUP valve. Previous owner removed it and the bike doesn't run all that great below 4k RPM. Sourced a complete EXUP valve from an FZ1 (Fazer), but now I need the cables that run from the servo motor to the valve. Haven't had any luck finding them used so I will have to buy new ones from the dealer  Enjoy the pics:

Can't really find them here either. Corbin discontinued them years ago. They turn up for sale on eBay here and there, but these came with the bike as well as new Michelin Pilot Sport HPX tires :p

Thanks for the warm welcome. I had registered a while back, but hadn't gotten around to posting. Lots of good info on here.

That D&D is loud indeed! This one is only a slip-on, but it sounds great

Well problem is my cables are not broken...they're missing so I doubt the universal cable kits would come with the adjusters. Anyway I learned through another forum that the 98-01 R1 EXUP cables fit the Ace as well. Found a set of those with good servo motor on eBay for a resonable price. Now I just have to put everything together and adjust it. Should be a fun project
