The place to come to share your technical expertise, or just find out what the little springy thing is that's just pinged out of sight under the work-bench.

Poorly Exup, looking for ideas

Post by markg »

On the lookout for possible places to start, think its fuel related but not sure.
Bike kept running today but winding the throttle on when moving the bike bogged down, very slow to respond and vibey almost like fuel not getting through.
This seemed to clear later on and no issues till I stopped and refuelled and it happened again but cleared.
Got bike home and found it was ticking over ok but sometimes let out a bit of a metallic clunk also the revs rose just slightly when it did it. Also seems to rev ok with no load. Exup valve is working ok.
Could it be carb balancing needed, or possibly something in a Jet? Also thought possibly that a lead or coil may be breaking down? Changed the plugs last winter. No problems with bike at all until today.
Any other ideas would be appreciated, maybe someone has experienced similar?
Thanks in advance

unfortunatly it could be all of those issues...your going to have to go through and rule things out one by one.

fuel pump is easy enough to work out as are the coils/plugs.

does it stop doing it when you switch the bike to reserve, have you tried giving it a bit of choke when it bogs down to see if its being starved of fuel?

Start with the easy and cheap stuff. Fuel filter after the tank and the little one where the fuel pipe feeds the carbs. Also the tank vent pipe.
Keep on keepin' on.
