Mornin'!

Post by Pr1ngle »

Hi there, i'm new to the forum, i've just bought what i believe to be an '89/90 Exup with an RU engine fitted. I've been trawling Google and the forums absorbing information wherever i can.

So anyway, i'm based in Chesterfield, Derbys., i've been riding 10 years in October, for 3 of those years I was an Instructor for a local MCT School.

In the past i've owned:
Triumph Speed Triple 1050
KTM Superduke 990
Triumph TT600
2x Suzuki GS500's
Honda CG125
Triumph Daytona 675
MV Agusta F4 312R
RMR Superbyke (Current)
Honda Grom (Current)
Cagiva Mito (Current)

My partner and I are currently building a Cagiva Mito 500 for her, and i thought i needed something to keep me interested in the spanners hence the Genesis.
Unfortunately the Fairings arent in Concourse condition, so i've removed them and i'll be fightering the bike before i get round to repairing and respraying them.

If i can help with anything, let me know ::thumbsup

Jonno
(P.S. Beers on me ;) )

Welcome Jonno
I'm in Mansfield so not far from you. There's a couple of folk in chesterfield area from memory
If you need info there's a section on the main site with parts & service manuals to download for free there's also a good knowledge base amongst the members/inmates.
Look forward to seeing pics of your ride.

Aye, I'm in Old Whittington & have an 89 Exup as my second bike (well it's currently my only bike until 1st Sept when I'm taking delivery of something a little bit different, That wasn't your Exup that made the top 10 at CMC's Japanese Classic a couple of weekends ago?

Stig, your name's been popping up alot! There's a US forum i've seen you on, i've seen your website for your projects, and you're also selling dogbones on eBay too i believe?
It's good to see someone so active within a community, something i've not seen since i started modding my first GS5!

No Rob, it wasn't mine, i did see the photo they shared and thought it looked the dogs danglies! I've had mine about a Week now and so far it's been up the street four times...

I'll see if i can get a photo up of mine tomorrow, it's by no means a true representation of how she will look, but the idea's there!

Welcome in Jonno. Whilst your doing your project, make sure you post some photos up.
Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.

Yep, guilty as charged sir. I'm as common as shit in a farm yard...... Get everywhere me! :ninja:

Sadly my own site needs trashing and starting again. It was a first attempt and a place to initially host some files for folk to DL. Lack of times preventing me from sorting it at present

I also need a favour, when i was cleaning up the cable routings i had to remove the block connectors in a few places to pass the cables through the holes in the frame.
Whilst i made a map for one side, i didnt for the other side as i tried to match with the existing cables on the other side of the block.

Now when i put my dipped beam on, my indicator warning light switches on solid! oops!

Can someone make a map for both sets of switchgear please..? i'd be forever in your debt!

Cheers!

I'll get a side on shot of her in a bit... the first three days i had her were just solid cleaning, she must have lost 2 kilo's just in road dirt and grease.

The wheels want stripping and refurbing, i can only summise they've either had brake fluid on them and it's caused a few imperfections, or the brake pad dust is highly corrosive!

Yes its a bit of a shame its been street fightered. It could've been another red white and blue candinate at the lincoln meet ups. :crybaby: :crybaby:

Is anybody thinking the same as me? I'm wondering if he's still got the the plastic panels etc. :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

Nuggit, yes i do still have all the panels, and no, they're not for sale or theft...
I have the original screen on the bike that i promised to a guy on the facebook page as he's doing a complete model restore, i've no qualms using aftermarket as she wont ever be a full on restore to standard job. The fairings aren't in bad condition, they definitely need a respray and several mounting points fiberglassed in places

The idea is to get the bike roadworthy and finish out the rest of the summer.

She needs a new rear tire, battery, fork seals, front wheel bearings, shock linkage bearings, SEVERAL bloody good cleans and a Full Service.
Add to that the EXUP valve has been locked open on full as it had seized, so that wants ripping out and rebuilding... thing is the valve cover bolts are so badly corroded i fear that if i cut them off, i wont be able to get them out myself (i've already got a seized chain adjuster to contend with after it snapped in the swingarm)

My end result is a fully faired FZR1000 exup, modernised, but not thoughtlessly, i want it to look like it rolled out of the showroom recently.
All the original mounting points are staying, as are brackets, but they're all getting sandblasted and repainted/ powder coated where needed over winter.
I want to be able to return her back to faired in the long run as the comment i keep hearing is "bloody hell, havent seen one of those in years"...

Irony is, she's the same age as me ;)

If you have the headers off with the cover on and stuck valve in... bring them over to mine and well be able to sort them in less than a hour

As for the cables, theres a cable routing diagram in the service manual in the tech section on the main site. Sounds like you have a couple of the connectors swapped around in the wrong position
