you're gonna find yourself with no banking structure (if you think the current system is bad, wait till you see what NO banking system is like...) as the bank of england and all three main UK parties have said no to a currency sharing union.
also your gonna have no defence, land air or sea, and i hear longboat building has increased 5000% in scandinavia...
scotland has also said that if independent it will never host nuclear weapons which means that its not going to be included in nato alliances.
the oil and gas output of the north sea has been in sharp decline since 2000, current estimates are that it will be unprofitable to extract and maintain the equipment by 2020, and it will be fully drained by 2030, given that its likely to account for 15% of all the money scotland will recieve its something that will be a big hit to the coffers (its 0.05% of the UK GDP for comparison).
many large institutions have said that is scotland does choose independence they will move their business to the UK, to manchester/birmingham/london/newcastle as the economic climate is better for them there.
ill end on this, im all for devolution of regional powers, but if you think that moving the power from the bastards in whitehall, to the bastards in holyrood who "are the same as me and understand my issues more"...then you are seriously deluded.
or a more succinct soundbite: "same shit, different day"

Just look at southern ireland do you really want to go there, plus if you want to join europe then you will have to take the euro which will instantly devalue your economy by a third which will make scotland very expensive to visit and also to live, but if you want to vote yes and go down that road then good luck with that one!:paranoid:
Ride it like ya stole it
Guys I respect your opinions and views, but dont agree with any of them.....what i do know is both sides are at full pelt with the propganda, and who is to beleive what?????
Time will end this big debate soon enough, and im sure that new debates will begin staight away....its gonna be interesting whatever outcome...
I do agree with the 'Same shit different day'..but I am hoping scotland is going to break the mould, not for a while im sure, but soon..

Most people have family in either USA or Canada, do you treat these family members as foreigners?
Why would it be any different for Scotland?
As for it becoming expensive to visit or stay in Scotland if its independent, how expensive is it to visit or stay in London?
You are right that you cannot trust ANY politician though but I would rather have someone who cares about the country fighting for it than someone who thinks we are a drain on the rest of the UK.
If we are such a drain on the UK, why are they so desperately wanting us to stay part of it?
Surely it would make more sense to get rid of us and make the UK prosper without us.
There are dozens and dozens of countries that have gained independence from the UK and apparently none of them want to come back.
For the majority of people both sides of the border there will be no change after a yes vote.
However after a no vote things could change for the worse north of the border.

its your choice if you live in scotland now, if not you have no choice as you cant vote ,so all the scottish people who now live in england or elsewhere have no say in there countrys future and all the english people in scotland can seems a little cockeyed to me
anyways you go with what your heart tells you and think things through for yourself no listening to what the politions are saying
i have a few friends in investment banking and they were telling me some of the big employers will shift there bussiness south as they expect taxes to rise sharply after 2 years and then of course fastlane the biggest employer in scotland will of course shut straight away and god knows what will happen if scotland has to take the euro currency ,lots of things to consider
a can of worms to be sure and i dont envy people having to make that choice ,i have family in scotland and alot of scottish friends and none have managed to put any credible reasons to vote yes , other than the vanity of saying you dont rule us any more ,but of course the queen still will rule you
good luck to you all anyway

GOD TOLD ME TO DO IT !!!
I'm not to sure if you guys down south are discussing this or not, but if its a yes vote, it could mean huge changes for you guys as well.
Like it or not, with out scotlands revenue from oil in to the coffers, westminster cant keep up with its loan payments to its oversees creditors....so will have to increase borrowing, which i turn means bad news for joe bloggs on the street paying his way...this is massive on both sides of the border if its a yes result.....

i mentioned this before, current oil revenues account for 0.05% of englands GDP, as opposed to manufacturing 10% and banking 25%...the loss can easily be recouped...whereas in scotland the oil industry accounts for 15% of scotlands GDP and its all rapidly running out.
almost all governments run a loss, as long as you can pay the interest its a financially viable system, it doesnt look good, but it is viable.
