raising bars on the 'Ace

Hi all

I'm getting to the point in life now where sportsbikes aren't as comfy as they once were. The wife likes to come out too and on my Thunderace, it kills my wrists, so I just had a measure up as I am considering fitting some risen clip ons.

Doe's anyone have any recommendations regarding these, as in height etc. I have made a rough measurement and reckon I could get away with a 40mm rise.

Any one else gone down this road before?

The usual advice watch the bars on the fairing. Risers are ok with straight bars. M n P used to sell risers and replacement bars. Your wrists are aching coz its a big old girl to chuck around otherwise its a more comfortable riding position than on the bread knife Exup.

I had a T/cat for 8 years before going to a 955i, then the 'ace, so lugging heavy bikes around is something I'm kind of used to. The ace is far comfier than the trumpet, but it is my wrists.

I had a measure up and reckon I could go up 30mm easily, so bars would then be a touch above the yoke.

Found some clip ons on ebay from yellow country, at a price I'm willing to take a chance on. I shall report back as to how is goes.

Looking again at the before and after pics, I will sweep the new ones back a touch. Just to give the index and middle fingers a bit more room in the fairing department. they do touch, but that's all they do, touch. Most of the install required no modding, the only bits that did was the removal of the clutch switch and the dremeling away of a little material around the outside of the switch mounting hole, as it interferes a bit with the bottom of the clip on bracket.

Oh yeah, and I had to drill the notches in to accomodate the switch gear and throttle, but that was easy.

looks like a great option for a fraction of the cost of risers

just be careful of the bar end weights i've heard stories of a terrible
vibration above 3k using aftermarket ones - if your origionals fit then
use those

Hey you guys. I guess after a couple of months it's time to give a recap.
The bars have proved successful in respect to position and comfort as my previous discomfort has cleared off. It's fair to say that I am pleased with the result, and for not much money either, which makes it worth the effort even more.

YzfPaul, regarding the bar ends. Yes, the oe ones do keep the vibes at bay moreso than the 4 quid ebay ones, but that was to be expected. The id of the bars are the same as the thread od of the oe bar ends though, which is a sod.
I have considered turning up some kind of adapter so I can use the oe bar ends in the new bars.

Hi all

I'm back after a spell away. It's now a year later and the el cheapo riser bars are still going strong. All I've done is replace the now rusting plated steel bolts with SS capheads.

Still not got round to sorting the bar end issue though, as this time last year, I bought a greenlaner and went larking about on that and rebuilding it.

Baack on the 'Ace case now though
