My 89 exup is in need of an oil change so what oil should I use and how much do I need.

Hi

A 10w-40 is ideal

The best oils there are the Silkolene Pro 4 and Comp 4, Motul 300v, Redline, Amsoil, Shell Advance Ultra 4 and Castrol Power 1 Racing. The Motul 5100, Castrol Power 1, Shell Advance VSX and Silkolene Super 4 are good cheaper alternatives.

Sorry Tim but that is the wrong spec.

The FZR1000 takes 20W40 or 10W30 depending on climate. I use 20W40 in summer and 10W30 in winter.

I've used 10w 40 semi synthetic for the last 17 years with this bike and 7 years with my FZ750 and not had a problem. :nod:
Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.

I've always used 10W 40 semi, all year round without any issues.

MMUK is correct. The exup handbook specifies the above, however, like most others I have used 10w40 for 25 years on mine with no ill effects to date :rolleyes:

20w40 engine oil was specified for my previous bike, a big air cooled V twin Yamaha MT01, but I could never find any, so I used a 20w50 motorcycle oil instead :nod:

if its any help Rock Oil do a 15/50 which covers all bases and is a happy medium between the two

I have doubled checked, in the UK 10w-40 is fine for the FZR1000 and FZR1000R

No need to change grades.
