Use a mitre box and a fine toothed saw i.e. a hacksaw. I shortened a damaged carbon can I got on an ace by an inch to get rid of the damage.
You've got to go steady so it don't tear.
Converted to pedal power. Now skinny as fook.

Has anyone done a topic on stubbying a can...it looks like i drill out the rivets so the end piece comes off, then carfully cut back the can and then re drill and rivet the spout bit back on...sounds simple

method I personally would apply would be....
If you want the can 3" shorter then take it to bits and cut 3" off each of the individual components
that way you keep the clearances of each piece to each other the same as they were originally
3" off the outer cover
3" off the baffle
and so forth...... then re-assemble
If that makes sense

If I have to understand, don't bother to explain.
