Any of you nice chaps have any experience with rider to pillion intercoms?
What's good, what's bad, what's expensive, what's worth it?

Bought a cheap one from Aldi/Lidl. Used it for the first time the other night when the missus loaded my shock.
It was fine to put on, worked well up to about 50mph.
It absolutely knackered when i took my lid off though!!!
Best thing to do is just as everyone else say's "enjoy the silence"

a good mate had a bike to bike set-up with his brother-in-law
they could talk about half a mile apart It was brill when overtaking to be able to keep up with the faster bloke in front.
first bloke would shout that the coast around the corner was clear and it was ok to go for it
Personally if i'm at the front...I'll stay on the opposite side of the road so that the followers are aware that they don't have to pull back into the line of traffic until I do myself coz there's sommat coming
I've mailed mate to find out what make the system was...will keep you posted

This is a difficult one Arc. I looked into bike coms along time ago. Oxford make was pants. There was someone who used to make something which attached to Nokia 3310 phone, but I think they went bust. The thing you got to remember here is how well can you ride if someone is chattering in your ear. Their useful on ride outs with mates who get lost , p*ss off and leave you, or maybe for warning about Plod. But why buy a rider to pillion set up? If Ellie does her test you'll need bike to bike coms surely? I did a sort of advanced refresher thing a few years ago, and I found the guy jabbering on at me an annoyance. It was only really useful if he was telling me where to turn. If you wanna chat, stop to talk, or ride a bit slower so you can hear the screams better.

Dont bother, ive tried the cheaper ones... like mentioned lidl had an ok one for a cheap one... but above 30mph the wind and engine noise makes it pointless.
tried a PTT bike to bike with a couple of friends... same thing, useless at high speed. If you want one which is actually any good, you need to pay the money for it..... Look up Autocom ... couple hundred quid though

Bummer, I've been looking at the Oxford stuff, cumbersome looking though.
I see your point about to much chattering mate, but to be honest Elspeth doesn't chat that much, even in the car, she know I need to concentrate a lot so she doesn't bug me. The whole idea is to try and have as much of a shared trip as possible, and knowing that we can have a couple of words every few dozen mile would be a comfort for both of us I think. The last thing I want is for her to end up bored, at least with coms she could ask me to pull over or whatever.
