Jeez how long did it take you to get that cast section like that?
Amazing work.

polishing

Post by creedxup »

Why thank you :D
I used something from work called an ABRADISC (like sandpaper that fits in a drill) and as long as you aren't scared of attacking it I could probably do that part in a couple of hours, but it took me many more than that.
Polishing to a mirror finish is the easy bit.
Making it smooth is what's difficult.

How do you keep it like that, surely NOT autosol....maybe something like Mother's.

Autosol is actually very abrasive and should never be used on chrome, it wears it away, I find it's good on corroded alloy but then I use Neverdull to get the mirror polish.

I've also got polish mops that you stick on a drill, all good fun but very dirty work.

polishing

1200 grit, wet to get it smooth.
"T" cut or brasso for the mirror polish.
MR SHEEN keeps it good and shiny and then an occasional polish with brasso keeps it as a mirror.

Just a question re: the welds on the frame when polishing your frame. Did you smooth them out completely and if so will it affect the weld at all?

I like it too but it feel's odd not having the alloy frame that I'm used to seeing them with.
