Hi everyone.

Just bought a 1989 FZR1000 Exup project cheap. I am sure it is an American import having the 55mph highlighted on the speedo although nothing is mentioned on the Logbook.
It has been stood outside for a couple of years but on first inspection looks OK.
Not the original colour but I don't think it is that bad.

I'm not usually a Yamaha man having around 12 Honda's at the moment (my brother and I restore Honda MB5's MT5's MBX80's etc) if anyone ever goes to the Stafford Classic Bike show in October you will see our stand The Honda MB Enthusiasts, we have been going there for about 7 years now.

This bike was too good to be true for the price, I saw it looking very sad outside somebody's house.

Time for a buff up and see what she really needs to put her back on the road.

It has only done 53 miles since its last MOT which was done in June 2017.
Looking at the MOT history it has only done 2000 miles since April 2006!
The mileage on the clock is only 18,000 which I believe is genuine.
Here is a couple of pictures after a quick buff up.





Poured some petrol in and turned on the ignition to find fuel leaking everywhere from the orange pump to carb pipe (this was an advisory on the last MOT but was ignored). Replaced this and to my amazement fired up and ran spot on (even idled OK) but a carb balance wont go amiss in future.

Need to change the fluids and caliper seals (binding) and a new front tyre (valve perished and the tyre has a flat spot) but other than that should be OK (even the Exup valve turns freely but I will strip it down to check).
Oh, and the fork seals got an advisory so I'll be doing those as well.

You say its been stood outside a couple of years. Was it outside in a heated shed being pampered every day with lots of tlc? She looks bloody gorgeous. I see what you mean re: the paintwork colour, its not bad and it looks like its been done professionally.

Yeh, it is plastic with a poor paint job. I have taken it off as it looks better without it.

I'm surprised how well it has lasted bearing in mind the cover was half off as in the picture.
The paint work is a little snotty here and there and the panels need re-fitting properly (think it has been down the road at some point, the front cockpit fairing bracket is a little twisted).
Will look presentable when I have finished with it.

Wiring to sort out next



A combination of hidden kill switch and switch that operates 2 flashing LED's
front and back. I just hate blue connectors and Scotch locks



You can see where the water level has been over the switch
There was a direct feed from the battery to this with no fuse inline.

Anyhow, I love wiring so will be sorted soon with proper bullet connectors and clear shrouds. Will also be putting everything back to normal.

If you got that at the right price you can't go wrong. Good to see some of these coming back from the dead. YZFPAUL just found one too.
In the right condition they're still fast bastards.
