Tacho Showing Double RPM When Hot

The place to come to share your technical expertise, or just find out what the little springy thing is that's just pinged out of sight under the work-bench.

Tacho Showing Double RPM When Hot

Post by YAMAEXUP »

Anyone else had this?

I was riding home earlier after a rideout & the revs were showing really high, when I knew that the sound of the engine was a lot less. Once home I switched off & left it for 5 mins then tried again...still displaying twice the normal tickover rpm.
So I left it for 2 hours & tried again just before locking up for the night & the revs are normal. I'm thinking a connection problem somewhere which is affecting the readings. I'll start at the black box & use contact cleaner then GT85, but I won't know if i've found the problem until I get the engine really hot again.

Anyone have a similar problem before??

Thanks Paully. I'll keep that in mind.

Strangely the bike worked ok all the way to & from Jayson's place last year.

Do you remember that Jayson still has a spare black box from your YZF days
