Does anyone know anywhere close to Notts I can have a small ding taken out of my front wheel.

If its not to bad, you can wack em out with a heavy rubber mallet.
If that doesn't get it make a decent wooden former for the good side and get a bottle jack on it with a bit of heat.

Central Wheel at Coleshill used to have a straightening service but used wheels are possibly cheaper now.

I was thinking about whacking it out..the tyre is still on and hasn't gone down in a few months standingoutside.
Will it knock the balance of wheel out?

Don't know. Never worried about it.
I only tend to balance the wheels when I notice that 70mph vibe.

Hi, I've had a couple of experiences with dinged wheels as you describe. The rear wheel reacts better to anomalies in shape, As for the front one, that definitely needed rebalancing. I suppose it's partially to do with total unsprung weight and moments of inertia, etc., the rear being the greater total mass. If you don't balance, you may still run the risk of uneven/accelerated tyre wear.

Came to read this thread anticipating the wheel being chunked.

When the Ring Piece T-boned me last year and drove into the carpark with my bike still under the front of his car, he scraped up my freshly painted front wheel.

I filled the scrape with a compound called Devcon (well known by us Engineering types) and dressed it down. Rock hard.

That was gonna be my recommendation, however, since it doesn't seem to require it, forget I said anything.
