wheres my oil cooler????

The place to come to share your technical expertise, or just find out what the little springy thing is that's just pinged out of sight under the work-bench.

wheres my oil cooler????

Post by andy88 »

Hi all. Just stripped all plastics off, and was just wondering where my oil cooler is???
Model is a 92 ru 1000...
Im sure its supposed to have one. Or am i being stupid?

Has a previous owner modded her, and if so, what grade of oil should i now be using....as engine cooling must've been affected..
Temperature sits under halfway, and fan only comes on in heavy traffic etc.....

Has anybody else come across this?????

Yes you're being stupid

Only kiddin :D

On RU the cooler is part of the rad set up. You should be able to follow the oil lines to rad area
Alt if it's been modded, the previous owner may have removed the cooler if the bikes been fightered as the engine then gets its own fresh cold air

Cheers stig,,,,definitely NO oil cooler.....so as to oil, do i need to change to say 5/30, which is thinner, stick with recommended 10/40,or go thicker, which i probably am, cos your gonna call me a fuckwit, and stick to original recommended oil. :retard:

Don't know about oil grade but if I was doing it I'd reinstate the cooler

Cheers stig...

I presume its a simple job of buying a cooler, and just plumbing it back up,( bolt on and oil seals)....yes im very confident working on engines, ive just bought a new hammer and im dying to try it...

Seriously though,, if its been plugged at the engine. Is it a simple case of just removing the plugs, and re installing the oil cooler...

Is there a mod that allows you to lose the oil cooler????

The oil cooler on a 92 model is behind the oil filter,it is water cooled, you should see some pipes going to it, the oil filter screws onto the cooler asm

I seen someone on here before put pics up where they just replaced the oil cooler with a bit of plastic pipe.
Going from 1 side to other over the oil filter housing ?

Someone on site did the adaption a long while ago. Think from memory that there's a fair bit of work involved as its not a straight swap
