needle jet question please

The place to come to share your technical expertise, or just find out what the little springy thing is that's just pinged out of sight under the work-bench.

needle jet question please

Post by andy88 »

Hi all....need a little help and all info is welcome...
Riding 1992 fzr1000 ru streetfighter.. No fairings etc.
Stock items are...
Carbs,original jetting
Airbox,complete with standard filter
Downpipes & exup valve..well maintained.
Standard gearing front/rear sprockets..

I have exhaust link pipe with aftermarket round can.

Ive noticed over last few months that my fuel economy is basically sh#t, and power has dropped from around 6200 rpm..i purposly stayed off the bike for a week, and when i got back on, she was purring upto 6200, then had to really really push her to go more,,opened the throttle and she basically bogged....power isnt just there now.

I have also randomly started her, at silly times,(neighbours not happy) :finger: WITHOUT choke, and she starts on the button. From cold..
Do i need new tubes?????

I have also read on the net, from various other sites, dedicated to fzr owners etc,and streetfighter forums, that if you remove the fzr fairings, this can disrupt air flow to the filter/carbs and cause high speed issues, as the air isnt flowing smoothly into the filter... Can this be my problem, and is there a fix.

I will be replacing tubes. When i find a good source. But also need to address air filter/air intake issues if there are any due to fairing removal.

Any advice regarding these 2 issues would be appreciated as im missing out on rpm and power.

Thanks.... Andy :drunk:

Not sure if its just tubes or both, but if im changing one, i may aswell do needles and jets at same time, save me having to keep ripping carbs off the bike...makes sense really.

Will also be re setting float height,,but not sure of a proper height.....
Some say 14mm, 18mm, and read online someone set theres at 22mm,and ran fine??????.

Do i go with the haynes settings, or is it more trial and error...

Hi all.....just ripped through my carbs today..started at the top..

First off were diaphragm tops..removed slide & needles. Checked needles and tubes for wear....nothing. Perfectly round, no scoring etc.needle washer set to third groove, as standard..checked this in haynes etc, and it states that there should also be a washer.. I have circlip and plastic ring thing, no washer..checked rest of carbs, again no washer but needles and tubes are mint..
Cleaned out this side of carbs. Re assembled and went to the float bowl.
Again stripped, cleaned, assembled..now to check my float height..
W.T.F....8MM or there abouts...anyway, set height to 14mm as per how to on tech help...thanks....re assembled, put bike together and fired her up..adjusted tickover, alls fine, now needs chike to start properly..
Also, she smells different now, not petroly like before. Revs fine and settles back to 1010 about.

Haven't had chance to road test her yet, but going back to the needle washer, am i missing something??? And why such a low float level?????

Any ideas anyone??

From experience most don't have the washer.
Only carbs I've seen with the washer are where a Dyno jet kits been fitted. The washer is used as a half setting for fine tuning

Hi all...bike pulling a lot better now..BUT,,,temperature is rising a lot more now,,used to hang at about 20 to if you will on the gauge, it now climbs up to just over 10 to when stood in traffic. Start riding again and she cools down slowly. Rad is fine, and rear filler bottle is set to correct level, with 50/50 water and coolant. Why is my temp rising since i adjusted float heights....???.

Do i need to re adjust my floats, fuel air screws was re set at 3 turns, which it was at when i screwed them in..only other thing ive touched is float height,,.... Any ideas.???
