help...very poor running

Hi guys, sorry not posted for a while, been renovating a barn and just finished, now bike needs work and im stumped....

This just started after 2 good clean days out, so new premium fuel in tank.

Pulling away and constantly through the revs up to 6000 the bike stutters, plutters and generally couldnt out run a 50cc moped... havent taken it over 6000rpm.

went up a steep section of road and could only manage about 15mph...on the flat it started to pick up but was still spluttering.

Could this be a carb issue, blocked fuel filter.?

K&N air filter gleaming, fuel pump primes on turning ignition on.

Does this spluttering in neutral as well.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Exup valve possibly seized/stuck in the closed position?

Spark plugs could be shorting to head (WD40) or need replacing
HT leads (Wd40)

Cheers guys,

Spoke to a garage and they said different symptoms for the exup valve, but ill get it checked out as well, suppose plugs, ht leads and fuel filter are easy cheap starting points...

Start with basics first

Stuttering, normally plugs etc

Exup valve poor low down power, always worth checking

Drain holes blocked in cylinder head causing plug holes to hold water?

I'd also think about possible fuel contamination at the garage. If they don't sell much premium unleaded it could have been sitting in the tank for some time. It'd be cheap enough to drain the tank and add some ordinary fuel from a garage that sells lots.

I wouldn't rule out a carb blockage but it would have to be pretty severe to make running that bad

Start by elimination... Is it running on all 4? If only 2 then try swapping the coils over side to side

weather permitting, tomorrow going to change the fuel filter, drain tank and put fresh stuff in, check plugs and leads and check fuel pump running ok.

Spoke to the guy who owned it prior to me, and it was fully serviced prior to me getting it, all fluids, plugs, leads, carbs set, new sprockets, chain, tyres, even so, that was 18 months ago....

It was running like a dream up to last weeks venture.....hope to hell i can get it sorted, Dynotec Ecosee in Hillington have a dyno and are carb specialists, they cant even look at it for 2 weeks...need it sorted soon....

Now...no shouting please...on 4th June me and a mate are off up to Tyndrum to the Green Welly to a Suzuki Test Day, got an hour on a new GSXR750 around Glencoe ....canny wait, so i need it sorted pronto...

Will keep you updated on progress,

You'll enjoy the Gixxer. I had a Gennie for 8 years and an RU Foxeye for 14. Loved them both. 6 years ago I got a GSXR750XK5 Anniversary edition. Best all round sportsbike ever built. More bhp than the exup, weighs nothing, revs to 14k and turns like a gnat on acid. PB timed one at 177 at Bruntingthorpe.
Only downside is it's a plod magnet with an open Akra.

I back Stig up on the blocked drain holes, the symptoms are the same as mine after a heavy rain - but once it was well warmed up and the rain evaporated it came right so might not be this.

You can get a high temp grease for the valve. Cant remember the name of it but I'm sure someone on here will tell you.

Aye 10/10 for your exup mention......if im going to strip it and clean and grease it up, i want to make sure ive got new gubbins for the valve before i open it up.....cheers
