Battery life- what do you get?

Post by Stig »

Well after being pleased that my battery lasted 3 seasons due to not using the trickle charger, I came to use the bike to find it no longer holds a charge

So my choice is to buy decent like the Varta i had before or risk a cheap and cheerful that may last a couple of years if I'm lucky

How long are you getting out yours and do you lay up over winter and is it trickle charged or otherwise?

i used to start my bikes once a month and that seemed to work for me but 2-3 years for a battery seems to be normal
GOD TOLD ME TO DO IT !!!

Had my Foxeye for 14 years and only had to change the battery once. Over winter I always take the battery fully charged off the bike and recharge it before putting it back in spring. Personally I favour Yuasa.
Keep on keepin' on.

Quality batteries last longer than cheapies, although either will die early if they are left to go too flat and I'm not talking totally flat, letting it drop to 50% charge (12.5v) on a regular basis will ruin it.
Batteries like to be kept fully charged, I keep my bikes plugged into cheaply Aldi trickle chargers, they work the same as Optimates.

I always go for Yuasa batteries. My last one lasted me 5 years. I use a Gunson fully automatic battery charger. I put monthly reminders on the calendar and on my mobile phone to tell me to put it on charge.
Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.

I always used to use Yuasa and an optimates trickle charger. After many dead batteries I stopped using the optimates on continuous charge/maintenance and bought the Varta
For the last couple of years I've just given it a boost every few weeks but now that's died too
This time I've gone for a Dynavolt from Busters. I've not heard of them previous but figure for the cheap price if it does after 2 years it's not cost the earth.
