Been a while but bought another FZR1000 / Moved to US

Hi all,

I've been away from these forums for a few years. Sold "Florafumi" when I moved to Canada (2011) and now living in the U.S. since 2012.

After three years sans bike I found a 1995 FZR1000 on craigslist and on 15th July 2015 took the 280 mile trip (each way) to collect it.

The Bad:
Doesn't want to idle very well and sometimes bogs at low revs which I'm hoping is because of the K&N filter.
Chunk missing from the bottom corner of the front fairing. Leaking tiny amount of fuel from somewhere.
Previous owner had it laid up for the last year and poured seafoam or something in it. Winters here get to -50c so maybe a broken pipe somewhere.

The Good:
33,000 miles. No oil leaks. Included the original tool bag. Generally good condition. Got it for a "can't complain" price.

Of course it rained here for the first time in a while so I haven't had a chance to give it a proper run.

Love that model, and that color. Good find. I found mine was dropping revs as well after she sat for awhile, so I also ran seafoam in the fuel for a bit and bought a new fuel filter. Seemed to slowly clean up the issue and she's running great now.

Hey, another Brit living stateside. Let me guess, a woman?

I pulled the carbs and three of the four diaphragms are split. Waiting for replacements. Then we'll see what else is wrong with it.

Definitely prefer this colour to the black ones but tempted to get it re-done either same as the '89 (see avi) or white and pink like the 750's were.

Thanks. I still think the '89 I had was better, especially in the red and blue on white (same as yours I believe).

Update: Just replaced all the carb diaphragms as all four had holes in them. Bike now idles and rarely needs any choke. Thanks to Stig I saved a fortune buying just the tops from a suzuki parts place - $25 each instead of $145 each that the complete diaphragm and slide need.

Took it for a blast yesterday and it seems to run well though there is an odd rumbling from I think the gearbox that comes and goes.

The PO put Michelin tyres on it and I'm not a fan. I used to run Dunlop 208's on the '89 and will tell anyone that cares that they're the best tyres for that bike (run them at 36 psi front / 42 psi rear). I will be trying out the new Dunlop Sportmax's when I change them over winter.

Once I've put some more miles on her I'll play with the suspension. Again, going back to the '89 dropping the yokes down the forks by 5mm made a huge difference.
