Clutch/crankcase cover

Hi

Id like to fit a clutch window (maybe) and would like to know what is in the clutch cover.
I know its in two parts but I dont want to take apart just yet to see.
Is there an air oil separator built in.
Does anyone know whats involved ?

Saw the post looks sweet but a bit too involved for me at the moment, maybe in the future.

Also thought about dry clutch but cant find any info on that one

I think somebody else on here apart from dangerousdave put a post up showing a perspex clutch window, but I can't seem to find it. I'll have a look on the fzr1000 site. It maybe be on there.

Have also done an extensive search with no luck on FZR's
will have to pull off cover and have a look.
Main worry is starving clutch of oil so still need to get an understanding of what the inside does.

I remember that post and looked into it at the time.
It was about 3 years ago on here and will have been purged from the forum by now.

The clear cover was machined to shape. from quite a thick section to get the curvature...it is not just a flat sheet.

The outer plate on the casing is just a badge/logo.
That can be easily removed and discarded...the main casing would require an opening machining and numerous holes drilling/tapping and an O ring groove to seal the clear cover to.

I also just recently spoke to an owner of an XJR 1200 who had an aftermarket clear cover.
He noticed when it was hot after a run and revved up the clear cover could be seen to be visibly sucked inwards.
He contacted the maker who stated that this was a first and replaced the cover free of charge.
The replacement does exactly the same and has been discarded.
Some sort of special material is required for this application and the aftermarket makers are not even getting it correct.

The fitments on the inside of the casing are to reduce a thing called "windage"; that is oil fling to you and me and it robs power when oil is slattered all over a moving component. It also reduces oil seepage at the filler cap even though an O ring is fitted.

Still not given up but sounds like a non starter.

Wouldnt a breather added to the clutch case cure the vacuum problem ??

There is already a breather there.
If you look at the fiche ; directly behind the casing is a baffle that I,m sure feeds the c/case breather.

I think on the XJR 12 it was simply the oil level being high up the clear cover and the clutch revolving tries to sweep the clear cover as well as the oil away.

Im guessing the clutch acts like a small compressor creating a + pressure inside the case, so I need to remove this high pressure oil and air separate oil and return.
Thinking that an oil catchment tank filled with stainless wire wool (for surface area) will catch the oil from air and I can then return to oil to the engine.
Thats probably the easy bit? the hard part will be trying to fit a window in the shaped casting without machining a new case which I wont do.

Looking at pics it appears that the 87-88 clutch case are the same as 89 with the exception of oil filler, is this right ???

Also where does the 87-88 oil filler live?, is there a blank or plug in the 89 where it was in the 87-88
