Camchain rattle on start up

The place to come to share your technical expertise, or just find out what the little springy thing is that's just pinged out of sight under the work-bench.

Camchain rattle on start up

Post by rexeriot »

Hi all. My camchain has started to rattle on start up but for only a couple of seconds. It will then rattle again for a few seconds on initial pull away. After that no problem. I guess the cam on the adjuster is failing and the plunger keeps being pushed back in. Is this a major issue? Can I repair or do I have to put a new one on and if so is a manual one a good idea ? Thanks all.
I always stick to the speed limits. Its just that the ones in our area they seem to have missed all the " 0's " off the end.

I'd take it off and check the teeth are not worn or missing at the point it's under tension, if it looks dodgy at all then get another one, manual one is ok, but a second hand genuine one a lot easier, don't think they play up as a rule
iv only had bikes for 40 years , what do i know ???????
