...The sump plug drops in to the drain tray, only to block the hole, and oil pisses out all over the sides of said tray.
...you have to put a new rocker cover gasket on a Thunderace, then find on warm up that the half moon bit of the gasket you can't see/feel/get to is on the piss and is squirting fresh oil out the side
...you have to go food shopping.
Anymore for anymore?

When you take the cover off an exup valve and the item behind looks like it's been sat on the fore deck of the titanic since it sank....
When the threads on that new unobtainium part strip way before the specified torque level...
When you're on a flow and grab a big handful of brake only to see later that's a tesco food van

You remove the valve cover on a pristine 1984 Z1000 for bead blasting and in refitting two of the bolts snap off in the head below surface. You send it to a machine shop, they get them out and helicoil the holes, You refit the head and when you fit the head cover two different bolts strip out the threads in the head 2 ft/pounds below torque. Pissed off you roll it back into the garage, the handlebar hits a snow shovel and the bloody thing comes down square on the beautiful all original tank. Disillusioned beyond words you part the bike out because at that point it is obviously jinxed and no way are you riding it.

Then you still try to see if the bolt will tighten up but it never does.Teego wrote:It's common knowledge that you find optimum torque by tightening the bolt until it strips then back off a quarter turn.Stig wrote: When the threads on that new unobtainium part strip way before the specified torque level...
Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.
