Clutch master cylinder repair kit

Well my RU's up and running so after washing her down I decided to ride her back onto the bike lift. As I wanted to stop before hitting the back wall of the workshop I pulled the clutch in but it appears the seals in the master cylinder aren't what they used to be... a bit disconcerting having to hit the kill switch to stop her!

Has anyone got any idea which supplier does decent rebuild kits at reasonable prices? I'm on a very limited budget at the moment.

I have had a few for different bikes including an RU one from wemoto and never had a problem with them.

cleaned my fj's front calipers last year jumped on my bike rode it round the garages got to the straight leading up to my garage applied the brakes......nothing :eek: frantic pumping and it stopped just before going through my neighbours garage door.

is it definately the master and not the slave seals pv? if i leave my fj ignored for a few months the slave seals used to let air in, polished the inside of it with autosol and it doesn't seem to do it anymore. just a thought as it's a free fix.

Thanks mattblackone, I'd been looking at the Tour Max kit as it was a little cheaper but I start to worry that I'm getting exactly what I'm paying for ie a cheap chinese copy. I had a very bad experience with a chinese pattern front brake lever a few years back on another bike which is why I'm a bit paranoid. I tend to go by word of mouth these days.

Took your advice yampug as I can think of more interesting rubber things to spend my money on than seal kits. I've dismantled the slave cylinder and it was a bit manky and so was the fluid inside it. I've cleaned it up and it looks much better. I'm going to do the same for the master cylinder and see how things go. It never ceases to amaze me how much a couple of nondescript rubber seals and a spring which I don't even need costs!

I seem to remember fitting a clutch master cylinder seal kit to mine many moons ago made by Tour max and it's still working fine. Touchwood. :D
Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.

electric drill with a bit of wooden dowl stuck in the end with some rag wrapped round and some autosol is good for polishing the inside of the slave cylinder got mine to a mirror finish and it's not given me any problems since. :)

As my dear old Granddad used to say 'There's nowt so cheap as free', and a free repair makes me happy. Thanks for the compliments on my FZR, getting her back up and running has been a bit like falling in love all over again. Takes me back to the day I first bought her :)

I'll have you all know that Escort in the background is the rare as hen's teeth 'Worzel Gummidge' special edition and washing it would wipe thousands off it's value :D Bonhams just won't leave me alone as they want it in their next prestige motors auction!

I replaced the slave seals not so long ago. Luckily my local bike shop had them in stock. Made quite a differance to the clutch feel

As for the master cylinder, I replaced the standard one years ago

If people find that the standard clutch lever is a bit of a stretch, get a pattern lever for a Thunder Ace. It's adjustable for span & it's a direct swap :nod:

Thanks Yamaexup, I can't remember who did it but I read about a member turning himself up a Dural piston for the slave cylinder which I will do as soon as I can blag some time on a lathe. I'll change the seals at the same time.

It's funny but I was only thinking about an adjustable clutch lever the other night and never realised that the Ace one was a direct replacement. I'll definitely go for that as soon as I can afford. Good tip that one.
