Exup import?
So, I've bought a lifetime dream of a very tidy FZR1000R Exup, upon ordering parts for this bike my local bike shop say they think it might be an import due to the computer not fully recognising its number plate.
Computer apparently says 'Europe' instead of UK.
The log book states it was registered in the UK from new in Nov 89, anybody have any thoughts or info on this?
The only thing on the bike that confuses me are the mirrors, they are Thundercat style mirrors (square rather than rounded)
I'm intreagued to find out if I'm right or wrong, it won't make any difference to me as this bike is a labour of love & not a financial decision,
Cheers Nick

Here's a starting point for UK market bikes:
FZR 1000
UK
1987 1000 2RG 'Genesis'
1988 1000 2RG 'Genesis'
1989 1000 R 3LG1 (EXUP) (Twin Headlight)
1990 1000 R 3LG2 (EXUP) (Twin Headlight)
1991 1000 RU 3LG3 (EXUP) (Single Headlight) (USD Forks)
1992 1000 RU 3LG4 (EXUP) (Single Headlight) (USD Forks)
1993 1000 RU 3LG5 (EXUP) (Single Headlight) (USD Forks)
1994 1000 RU 3LG6 (EXUP) (Foxeye Headlight) (USD Forks)
1995 1000 RU 3LG7 (EXUP) (Foxeye Headlight) (USD Forks)
I found this on another site and it seems the key model identifier is the first four digits/letters on the frame. If you just post these up you will be safe.
I live near Wirksworth, 5 mins from Via Gellia. Tend to use the caff in the layby at the bottom. Had a Genesis from 1988 to 96, then a Foxeye Exup until 2010 and a GSXR 750K5 since then.

I bought a '90 model for spares that had come from Italy. The frame number starts 3GM. In addition there is also an identification plate riveted to the frame box section just behind the frame number stamped into the head stock. Perhaps imported bikes have this ID plate fixed to the frame? I know my '89 exup doesn't have one. Incidentally that bike's frame number starts 3LG.
Hope this is of help
