turbo time
One of my mates got a turbo off a Saab and asked me to make the necessary bits and fit it on for him, so here are a few pics of the fabrication of it.
and now he's put the set up on a bandit now as the motor in the gixer wasnt the best of engines.

turbo thunderace
Where can I get info on turboing a Thunerace -all that was done, pistons,timing, carbs, injection?

The engine can take some serious power if you swap the clutch
250 bhp at the wheel will be easy achievable
mine will be done next year (if i dont build it all into a new frame before that).
i know of a blow thru running 280 bhp at the wheel no issues.
spacer plate and different clutch is all thats been done to it.
strip the engine check everything is in good condition.
fit a spacer plate thickness depends on your engines c/r
modify the carbs for boost (stock needles and jets best) wire all the pipes to avoid boost leaks, set float height.
build headers and plenum 38mm ss for headers aluminium box for plenum or sheet if you prefer.
run the stock turbo wastegate or external wasgate if you prefer.
get fuel pump (metro turbo is good) malpassi rising rate fuel regulator.
modify tank to accept a fuel return above fuel level
fit pitot tubes in the up pipe for boost compensation to the float bowls.
and so on theres a bit of work but its easy enough to do.
most important is get the fuelling right, to lean and bye bye pistons.

generaly they max out about 80,000 rpm where as a petrol one will spin alot quicker.
having said that they have been used with success you need to look at the compressor maps to see if its suitable.

Turbo are generally smaller on diesels. That is the only difference. Some models of turbocharger are used on both petrol and diesel powered vehicles.
You could happily use a small turbo and run it at low boost. I use a tiny TF035 and it run at a max of 1.0bar boost, and it'll go from zero boost to max boost in no time at all. How much boost does a bike need? I think you should always choose the smallest suitable turbo for the boost you want to achieve.
