Engine looks sweet, what did you do to clean it up and what did you use to paint it?

Plenty of engine degreaser and a rotary wire brush followed by loads of pre-paint. I used Halfords metallic black engine paint (which is the greyish stuff) and aluminium engine paint plus some shiney gold paint and silver wheels paint. Not sure what will happen to the gold paint once it gets up to temerature but was told it will just dull off a bit. Wait and see I suppose.

The carbs are now cleaned up and fitted, I thought I would get them on before fitting the engine, someone told me it was easier that way.

Kin ell. That mill looks better than when it left the factory. Keep it at home as an artwork and get another old one for the bike.
Keep on keepin' on.

I'm very impressed with how clean the engine is.

Like Teego says it's far to good for the road, get another one to stick in it.
Bit of advice. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes, because if you aren't in one you'll be in the other.

I have got an R1 front end and was wondering if the R1 rear wheel will fit the RU. It's just that the front wheel will have straight spokes and the rear will have sloping ones if you get my drift and I want them both the same.

Engine looks good, but the inlet trumpets should be the other way round, ie scooped towards the front. Unless you have something else planned for them :paranoid:

As far as the R1 rear wheels goes, I ain't got a scoobie!

Keep it up though :D

Finally got the polishing wheel out and buffed up the clutch cover.

Incredible how new the whole kit looks!

Did you strip the motor? I can't remember.

I heard it running when I bought it and it seemed to be OK. I did consider re-ringing it and replacing the stem seals but when I looked into the costs involved I decided against it.

Took the frame and swinging arm to a polishers today. I had a quick go at the frame but it's a pig of a job to me and thay will do both to a mirror finish for 200 squid so what the hell, sounds like a bargain (apart from the 300 mile round trip to drop them off!)
Get it back in three weeks or so, can't wait. :D
