yamaha yzf 750/1000 has come home

ok couldnt help myself lol
i started the strip down this evenin
will post some pics in the mornin
on first inspection the whole bike is just grubby
this is not a bad thing as all parts can be cleaned
mechanically on the other hand the bike needs some attention
front forks are leaking
rear end looks too low so is either a dog bone job or rear shock is sagging
engine is ticking over too high and cant seem to settle the revs down
and there is a slight rattle but couldnt find my special wooden stick to investigate further
the other obvious thing which caught my eye is the cdi box is 4hd
and should be 3gm - i think i'll wait till the projects done and do a dyno run changing boxes

i also found this thread from a few months ago - must of been the prev owner

got a popping sound on my exup at tickover,

so i popped off the filter box and i can see fuel igniting thru number 2 carb butterfly...

i suspect a burnt valve,
'if so........
.............,can you buy top end gasket kits for these...?89 model exup 1000. and any advice on lapping the valves would be appreciated... (the inlets are minute)...

sounds like a long way for a shortcut if you ask me
but will investigate
is the same engine john built so he didnt do a swop in the end which is a good thing me thinks

Might just be a tight valve..just a reshim might fix it.

Inlet is 4'-8', exhaust is 8'-12'

I seem to remember that you sat up all night doing the shims on your bike, the night before the Mayday Run...but that you had problems using the YZF750 ECU on the Exup 1000 engine.

i had a yzf and a fzr haynes manual - i think jay has them
he also had my exup 3gm cdi unit
but not sure if he will still have the stuff,
it might of got lost in the move to wales worth a phone call tho
i havnt spoke to him for a few months

well i had a great weekend down in london
spent some quality time with my boys
and cought up with yamaexup (i want his garage)
i also picked up an ow01 nosecone and other bits and bobs
my air compressor and some spares i had at my mums house

i have offered up the nose cone
will take some fabrication but have bolted it up where i want it
and needless to say it looks awsome
because i dont have a bellypan for it i'm going to use my yzf 750 one
and graft the bottom of the yzf 750 side pannels onto the lower part of the owo1 nosecone
the only trouble is the lhs pannel i have is damaged right where i dont want it to be so will need to get hold of one from somewhere
will take some pics tonight
