Hi Lurch, thera's not much difference low down but you can drown the standard motor if ya give it too much of a handfull cos of the pumps. saying that, you need to trained yer right hand a bit the power delivery is smooth and pulls like a train all the way through the revs. Running 160 mains. oh yeah and at full tilt its gunna hurt the wallet. Full! bore! suck! roar!
Hope this helps

Had a feeling it might be a bit like that, if you are gentle can you get quite respectable figures?
Reason for asking is if I wanna go up country I wan to know if the carbs can still deliver efficiency if you aren't too aggressive with the right wrist?

Something clever goes here but I can't be bothered!
Hi Lurch & Madyam, The fcr's give quite good gains in torque through the range but are more noticable at mid range as the motor really starts to breathe, that was before the rebuid though, the motor was burnig quite a bit of oil even after a valve job
I've just had the motor rebuit with a wiseco 1040 and a head from Debben performance with ape valves also ported.
So still need to get out on it. a quick 200 mile run in, drop the oil, replace with decent oil, new filter then stick it on the dyno
I live near Bonnyrigg in Midlothian YPE cuntry

That's looking good...keep us up to date with the pics. It'll be good to see the finished bike. A friend had an RU that he threw down the road & had a small scrape on the frame. The insurance company wrote the bike off which he bought back & rebuilt it with loads of goodies on it. The only thing was that he didn't spend all of the money on his bike as his missus wanted a new sofa...
Feck that mate, bike money gets spent on bikes not friggin sofas and shite I had to cut sections off the ru rad cos the mounts foul the ru forks at full lock on the 89 frame no big deal though
