Newbie Thunderace

Just another newbie.

Been looking round for a number of weeks looking through hundreds of posts, ive noticed a few members are from the 2T forums so hi to anyone who reconises me.

Ive had loads of bikes but at the moment my hack is a 97 Thunderace, 30 ish K, few marks and little cracks, I bought the bike to use as an all rounder. From the offset its a nice ride, comfy, little soft, not exactly quick compaired to other bikes but quick enough to have some fun on.

Tyres on there are rubbish, got a Conti on the rear and D207 front BUT im a Pirelli / Metzler man so I think a set of Rennsports come spring.

Got a Remis end can which is very quiet, may gut the standard end can and bolt that on but ive read that the Hayabusa can will fit, if so ive already got one gutted to try.

Breaks are a little wooden but hard, see how I get on with them after a good thrashing and if not get some Carbon Loraine.

She feals little lumpy from cold, just carbs to be balenced I think, does use a little oil.

Not sure what mods can be done, I gess there is an air box mod, also not sure if it can be done with standard pipes but may remove just the exup valve compleatly.

Brakes should be A1 coz they're based on a similar design to those of the R1/6 but aren't a one piece casting....try just swapping the pads and fluid. Stainless hoses help too if not already fitted

As for the exup valve...theres a few folk that have swapped headers with decent results on the Ace Sandys bikes fro Ebay seem to be the favoured supplier

Chears, I do like to fabricate most things myself, ive read that the exup valve needs to be coppersliped up reguarly, im gessin if this is so I can remove it with making a blanking plate or somthing. Gessing I can jus forget about the servo once the exup is removed.

Any other feebee mods to be done even if it mean some fabrication (apart from a turbo of course, lol)

Using a little oil is pretty normal. Using a lot would be a problem.

Some people say removing the EXUP dulls the bottom end power
noticeably. Do you ride in the lower rev ranges at all?
If you remove the EXUP valve or the airbox you will need to rejet, and you
will need to leave the servo in place and connected or the computer will
have a fit. Personally I stuck with the airbox and the exup valve and
enjoy the smooth power in 2000-4000rpm around town.

Nah I ride like a compleate arse all the time, unless its being scratched sidewards or vertical then its boring, lol.

Read so many stories on the exup valve, as in if it is noticable when removed, if it needs rejeting etc. With the Airbox I was going to just have a look inside to look for any restrictions like the flaper systems on Busas, TLR, etc.

The can on there at the moment is sooo quiet.

I love all bikes BUT sorry to say im a Suzuki man through and through BUT I do love all bikes, well almost, got a personal hate thing with Hondas. All Hondas are almost perfict for almost anyone and that is my hate. Love Suzukis because they are rough and raw, want to be thrashed within an inch of there life. Still like Yamaha & Kawasaki's. had plenty from ZX12r, ZZR11, YZF750, Got an RD350 Hybrid built by me.

Any freebee mods that I can do though?

Dunno about freebie mods, but I'd recommend getting some single block R1/R6 blue spots and a R1 master cylinder if you can, much better brakes then. Stainless steel all lines including clutch. If your not arsed about the exup, change the headers for stainless ones, the originals rot. Rear shocks are poo after about 20,000 miles. PB set up works for most people as it whacks the preload settings up a bit, hang on thats a freebie. Get some normal 60/55W H4 bulbs, and bend the tabs in, they'll fit straight in lamps then, standard are 35/35W and unless you've got an owls eyesight, their shite for fast night riding. Ace isn't a bad bike, just wide and far too heavy for real scratching. And your not the only Suzuki owner on here, so don't apologise for being a Zuki fan.

You must realy miss home, here in Wales we have some of the best biking roads in the UK, also one of the longest unmand streaches of motorway if you catch my drift. Posible to get any bike or car flat out in top gear (so ive been told, lol )

Where's that then? Only got the M4 in Wales and I got the hair dryer pointed at me from a bridge last time I was on there.

We're all scared of going to Wales because o the nutter wot was the DCC hates us. Last rideout over there we got the helecopter, a bike escort and half a dozen hair dryers hiding in people's driveways. Didn't stop much antics though 'cos rob and fester were there and I was in the mood. The bloke on the 06-ish GSXR750 didn't like me much after I left hime for dead on the road out of bala on my 19 year old nail

Yep M4 got cameras all over it, M48 though old bridge in is almost deserted most of the time. Plenty of places to get nabbed but plenty of roads that are clear aswell. All so ive been told as im an Angel BUT my name is Lucifer. lol.

M48 almost deserted these days. Dont use it much cos when l go back, use A40 from oxford, through Forest of Dean to Monmouth, then into Abergavenny through t Llandovery.

Lotss of LOVERLY roads in Mid and West Wales if you know where to look fr them. NEVER go to North Wales, dont like the ppl or the boys in blue up there

A realy nice route is after a meet at Abergaveny, off to Hereford then Mountain roads accross to Llandovery. Between Hereford and Brecon it is tight and twisty accross the Mountains with some scary shear drops but breath taking roads without PC Plod as not many people know these roads.

Abergaveny, Brecon, back down the A470 to Terry's Burgers, Big meet point PC Plod always there BUT from there back on the deserted roads to Llandovery passing through Senibridge, that pass most of the time is clear.

Llandovery has always got PC plod lerking.

Llandovery, Bulth Wells, Rhayader is an amasing ride but PC Plod lerking.

From Rhayader you got Aberystwyth. BUT long ride is up to North Wales A470 all the way, from that point ive never seen PC Plod, Passing Dollgelliu though the mountain pass looking over at Snowdonia. Problem with the A470 from Mid-North wales is that if you carnt see passed/round the bend then BACK OFF as 100% it will be sharp 1st/2nd gear corner.

Another Amasing route is Abergaveny to Ross-on-Wye passing through Skenfrith. Unbelevable bends, corner called the 90mph corner as thats the only speed you can do it with your knee down, carnt go faster then that through that pass but any slower and no chance.


Plenty of roads with no Plod, Defo M48 for getting ANY vehical flat out, I know of a busa played with off the clock with ease on there, IT WAS NOT ME, lol....

A449 Never take a chance on, always mobile cameras BUT there sweepers are 140+ with over a mile straights after them.
