Had the same issue. Problem is the single seat cowl. Take it off and the seat will lock straight into position. I ended up making some replacement clips to secure my cowl. No issues now. Locks straight in every time.

Will be interested to know if the BMW S1000RR rear shock is a straight fit. There are plenty of these available on eBay

Never tried adding a die to the engine oil. Sounds like a good idea. But I did change the oil just a few weeks ago. The oil below the sprocket and around the top of the kick stand looks very clean!
