The 2000-01 5jj shock should be a direct swap for the 98/99 4xv, in terms of fitting it to the bike. Dimensions & mounting points are identical but Yamaha made some revisions to the later shock's spring &/or damping rates. Think you'd be very hard pressed to notice the difference though Kiwi...
