THUNDERACE BOTTOM END (CRANKCASE COMPONENTS) CHECKLIST

I have a haynes and Yamaha manual but I'm trying to create a check list of Crankcase or bottom end components I'm rebuilding an engine (badly lol) and instead of flicking through pages, both manuals seem to step around when rebuilding crankcase from one page to another etc. instead of sequentially. ...

HY-VO (Primary) Chain

It states in the haynes manual to install this on the crank the right way around.
This chain seems to be an endless chain, what does it mean by the right way around?
I did notice a blue vertical stripe on the chain so I installed this facing the Cam chain.
Does the blue stripe mean anything?

I will have loads of tea breaks lol.

I think the broken bit is from the Starter Motor as identified in this pic where I have coloured in yellow

Hi Chris, Yeah the "Y" marks do point to the left side of the engine. I've taken a pic of the J. that are on the rod caps, so do they mean that, that rod should be installed on journal #1 etc. and if it has 2 dots that's for journal #2 etc. Or should I just ignore the J. marks and measure ...

Mnaged to get this out, the only way was to insert a wood screw into it and pull (very hard) with a pair of mole grips.

The wire had snapped anyway so I wasnt bothered how this came out.

I've never had one stuck in like this, they normally just sort of wiggle out as you say

Previously they just sort of pulled out but this bugger is stuck in fast

Cheers guys, I'm a couple of months from buying a front end (thats if I decide to go down that route) but I'm always confused why people sell just the bottom yolk and not the both top and bottom together, am I missing something?

THUNDERACE FRONT END

Ok I think I may change the front end of my Thunderace project, I'm just weighing up options now, I like the std front end but on my previous Ace I fitted a YZF750 front end and it looked good. As YZF750 front ends are now like rocking horse manure, what other front end could I fit that requires, we...
