I think the era ended a few seasons ago.
VR certainly changed the game. I admired Doohan, Rainey, Lawson etc but Vale raised the bar.
It took a long time until Marc M came along with a whole new app ...

I put 155 bones on my Foxeye. That sharpened things up.
Then I went -1 +2 on the sprockets.
This shortened the wheelbase a tad which complemented the bones.

AFAIK original springs were linear and good enough. You can adjust preload, a bit, for sag. You can adjust damping by using thicker or thinner oil.
I don't think that "progressive" springs ...
